Bicycle Patrol Unit

The Lower Makefield Township Police Department Bicycle Unit started in 1997 with two officers. Since that time the unit has expanded to seven officers who utilize specially equipped mountain bikes. Our bike officers are able to patrol anywhere in the township, but mainly use the bikes in shopping centers, business complexes and along the Delaware River Canal towpath. Our certified bike officers have attended an intense training course where they learn to ride in all types of inclement weather conditions, up and down stairs, and learn about proper nutrition. The Bike Unit has been a successful asset to the police department; especially during school events held by the School District, sports tournaments, and on Halloween and mischief nights.
